The Standard Industrial Classification Code (or SIC Code) is a standardized system designed to classify industries by a four-digit code. This system was implemented in the United States in 1937 and is used by the government to classify industries into different categories. They are classified in the industry group, major group, and division. The first three digits of the code designate the industry group or industry consortium, the first two digits designate the major group, and the division is a range between the codes.
